L’Isola Tiberina
The island Tiberina was decked with marble and shaped to resemble a boat in the 1st c. B.C.; a temple to the god of medicine, Aesculapius, had been built there two centuries earlier; and the 1548 Fatebenefratelli Hospital, much renovated in the early 1930s, still receives patients under the pines today.
